Develop a small area is always a real headache. Whether it’s a studio, a mini kitchen or a micro bathroom, demonstrate practicality to make the best use of available space and do not overcrowd the room. How to optimize the 2 or 3 square meters of a bathroom without sacrificing comfort? The mission is not so impossible.

Redesigned by architects during renovation works, these small bathrooms have been arranged to the millimeter. They thus include a shower with more or less generous dimensions, a vanity unit with storage, toilets and, for many, a washing machine. This small 3.5 m2 bathroom has been optimized in every corner. The toilets, slightly raised using a step that allows the pipes to pass underneath, were installed in the back of the room. The architect also opted for a shallow basin so as not to encroach too much on the circulation space.

To make the most of the few square meters of this bathroom, the architect made sure to install the shower as far as possible from the door in order to provide a more comfortable circulation space. Reducing the width of the window by half thus made it possible to lock the cabin in the corner, which also freed up enough space to install a washing machine.

To make the most of the space in this micro bathroom, the architect chose to install a rounded corner shower and opted for a curtain rather than a door, which gives easier access to the toilets. To create an impression of depth and perspective, she also used a very effective set of mirrors.

In addition to its reduced surface, the bathroom of this studio had another handicap: the angles of the walls were not straight. The architect therefore had to redo his plans several times, but she managed to fit a walk-in shower and a washing machine. She also opted for suspended toilets so as not to clutter the floor space too much.

The bathroom of this small studio measures just over 2 m2. To have a more comfortable space inside, the architect eliminated the old bathtub which took up all the space, and arranged the room in a row: the toilets behind the right wall of the shower, and the basin on the left. A wardrobe space, located slightly outside the bathroom, can also accommodate a washing machine.

Separated from the bedroom by a sliding frosted glass door, this tiny bathroom barely has room to accommodate a relatively spacious shower tray (120 x 80 cm), a vanity unit and a toilet. On the decor side, the architect dressed the room in dark blue, a color that could have “shrunk” the interior but which, on the contrary, gave it character.

Wedged at the back of the kitchen, the mini bathroom of this studio is separated from the kitchen by a glass wall and from the living room by a sliding door. It thus benefits from an entry of natural light, reflections on the windows ensuring the privacy of its occupants. Inside, the space, reduced to a minimum, has been divided between a relatively comfortable shower area, and a wall-mounted vanity unit for a visually more airy result.

To save space, the mini bathroom of this 17 m2 studio was closed by a sliding door. Inside, preference was given to rectangular shapes which allow the various elements to be arranged without losing space. In terms of decoration, white, subtly highlighted by soft lighting, suggests an impression of volume.

Redesigned to optimize space, the small bathroom of this 25 m2 studio now opens directly onto the bedroom thanks to a sliding door. The interior volume was thus able to be redistributed at best. The old bathtub gave way to a shower tray and the sink was placed on a countertop made to measure to be able to slide a washing machine underneath.

Located under a staircase, the mini bathroom of this studio had only a very small space. Its 2.5 m2 have nevertheless been largely optimized, with a shower set in the back of the room, a rectangular basin to take up the least space possible, and a custom-made cupboard which also conceals the washing machine.

A more functional bathroom

Originally, this small bathroom was cluttered with a bathtub. It has therefore been replaced by a shower cubicle, the old toilet by a suspended model which frees up floor space, and the old sink by a vanity unit with storage. Modernized, the bathroom is thus much more functional and avoids lost space.

To make this mini bathroom with beveled walls as functional as possible, the architect chose to install a corner shower with rounded edges. The suspended toilets thus find their place in the back of the room, and the square basin occupies the space located in the corner just at the entrance.
